The day that I dreaded in this trip came. The bike day. I never liked bicycles, not even as a kid. This was actually kind of fun and it put us close to the shops and houses and people. If not for the heat, this old woman would made it around the circuit of about 15 miles.
We biked (1-speed bikes) out into the countryside and to the estuaries along the shore. First stop: fishing with some fisherfolk from the little round basket/boats. We then headed down a dirt path toward a small farm where we planned to do some plowing Vietnamese-style. The path was a bit rough and we were riding from shady spot to shady spot and getting hotter and hotter. The scenery was beautiful out in the countryside, but we nearly lost two people to sun stroke. We found a little cafe (which looked like it was in someone's house) where we rested up and called for a van to get some people. We cut the trip short, bypassing the agricultural lesson. So sorry to miss the rest of it, but we couldn't do it in this kind of heat.
The unbecoming photo of me is to show how red and bedraggled one looks/feels after biking in the tropics. And to show off my dorky hat -- which works well to ventilate and ward off the sun.
We're resting and swimming before we go out again.
Intense! You are a serious jock in my book. That kind of heat is no joke.
