Back to Hanoi

We left the highland beauty of Sapa on the night train, back to soggy Hanoi. The rice fields of Sapa were not only beautiful, but also impressive in their construction. We woke to rain on the thatched roof, more roosters crowing and pigs grunting, and to banana crepes for breakfast.

The persistence of the H'mong women was as amazing as the rice fields. They were at the door as soon as we walked out, trying once again to get us to buy. The students are getting the hang of bargaining. I'll never enjoy it, but it's necessary if you want to buy anything. And a wee bit of fun. Lauren and Ashley are displaying the pineapples they bought for a snack on the train.

That's our guide, Tony, in the photo with me.

We got to Hanoi at 4 a.m. with one student dehydrated and sick. Otherwise, we're fine and resting for another day in Hanoi.
